DIYALUMA FALLS

One of the most visited waterfalls in the country, both by locals and foreign tourists, Diyaluma Falls have given rise to folklore. The story is about a man who was banished and his beloved who wanted to be with him. As per the story, the girl was trying to climb up the escarpment with the help of a rope, but she bashed her head against the rocks and died before she could reach the summit. The gods saw the tragedy and formed the waterfall in order to wash off all the evidence of the girl’s death. The name Diyaluma or Diya Haluma has the meaning ‘flow of water’. Visitors can trek up to the summit – along the way you’ll find several small waterfalls and pools – for scenic views of the area. Also, a few things need to be on your packing list if you want to visit Diyaluma Falls: sunscreen, water, comfortable shoes, towels, and warm clothing are essential to your trip to the Falls.
