Early mornings or late afternoons are ideal for safaris at Yala when the weather is cooler and the animals are more active.
Yala is most famous for its high numbers of Sri Lankan leopards. You can also see elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, monkeys and various birds, including peacocks, herons and flamingos.
These safaris are very safe, as you will be in a sturdy jeep with an experienced guide who knows the park layout and understands the behaviour of the animals.
This is not recommended as it may agitate or provoke the animals. You are also not allowed to feed or interact with the animals at any point.
Wear light, comfortable clothing in neutral colours like green, brown, or khaki. It’s also a good idea to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
